DIRFloortime®

The goal of DIRFloortime® is to ignite development through the use of emotional connection and relationships.  We aim to gather a deep understanding of each child’s unique profile including what is meaningful and motivating to them.  Using this information we join your child in rich and meaningful interactions.  These connections are where the magic happens.  DIR is founded in science and is evidence based.  It is effective in advancing development for all children but is especially beneficial for children on the autism spectrum and with other developmental or emotional challenges.

Social Language Groups & Individual Services

We celebrate and honor neurodiversity. Social learning challenges can result from a variety of diagnostic labels including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, depression, learning disabilities, sensory processing disorders, social anxiety, and traumatic brain injuries just to name a few. Our goal is to help the individual, not treat the label.

Social Language strategies are targeted on a group (2-4 peers) or individual basis for clients kindergarten-young adults based upon an initial interview/screening process which identifies the best placement for each student. We take a cognitive linguistic approach to social learning so that we can provide our students with tools to better understand, interpret, and engage in the complex and ever-changing social world. The goal is for our students to effectively use social communication to function as a member of a group in a variety of different settings such as home, school, community and/or in the workplace by learning to adapt, engage and problem solve rather than recall a set of scripts and behaviors for every social situation.

Sessions are 45-90 minutes in length, 1-2 times per week for up to 6-8 weeks during the fall, winter, spring and summer. Because our approach is language based, it is important that group members have solid language skills. Using language is fundamental to our approach as we learn new tools and strategies and discuss and interpret everyday situations.

Executive Functioning

We address executive functioning (EF) skills in both individual and group sessions. EF refers to the skills needed for everyday tasks including planning, time management, organization, and decision making. Difficulty with executive functions impact home life, school participation, and engagement in social activities. Research tells us that the foundational EF skills of attention, inhibition, and working memory are at the root of language development, communication, and social pragmatics.  We assess EF skills to determine areas of need for each individual to meet them at their developmental level, from those foundational skills to more complex. We believe that determining and using their EF strengths will help build success in all environments.
